Happy New Year!

Toni and I wanted to wish everyone a happy New Year and also to thank all of our customers that have made our past few years so wonderful. I almost hate to say customers because many have become friends. There's no telling what the future holds but, if it's any refection of our past I am excited for our new adventure!

Shop updates!

Hello friends!
Some of you know and to others this will be a surprise but, we will be out of the shop on January 6! My family is moving to Louisiana and as much as Toni would like to keep the shop going, it will be too much for her by herself and is taking a break and hopefully in the near future she will find a great location and open a shop of her own. We are having HUGE sales on our furniture so if there is anything you are interested in come on by and we will make you a great deal! We would like to thank our customer/friends for really allowing us to have such a blast and making our little prim shop full of love and laughter. And if you are ever around Fort Polk look me up, I will definitely have a little something going on down there!

It's simple math!

It's simple math, furniture out means furniture in and it's time to go shopping. We have been pretty busy at the shop and in our personal lives and we are hope to schedule a shopping trip soon, like maybe next week. We have Cameron Festival and the Yule Mart later in the year and we need to stock the shop full of wonderful finds. We are having our FALL OPEN HOUSE on Saturday September 17, we will have our fall items out and will be running a sale. Whoever came up with the statement "THE THRILL OF THE HUNT", got it right, that's the best part of shopping and hopefully we find a lot of great stuff!

Dreaming of Fall!

It's been so incredibly hot in North Carolina and we are dreaming of Fall. I did get one huge bag of gourds cleaned up and waxed. The small apple ones are so cute they look like mini pumpkins and we will be pulling out our fall items soon. We've had a great summer usually it's our slowest time of the year but, we are doing great. We will be doing our usual craft fairs this year one in the fall and one in the winter and we will be having our open house soon and will update the calendar of shop events so check back with us soon. I am heading out of town to visit my Dad in NV with my sister but Toni will be at the shop and make sure you come on by and say HOWDY!

I've got junk in the trunk!

I've got junk in the trunk and no I am not talking about my butt! I had done some shopping over the past few weeks and ended up with a lot of stuff. No big scores but, I love smalls too. Every year I buy a ton of gourds from a local farmer and clean them up and sell them in the fall so I had two huge bags of them, I found a primitive rocking horse and a cradle, and tons of kitchen items and it looks like Monday I will be pricing and putting them on the floor. So come on out and see all the junk that was in my trunk!

Heat advisory!

Boy oh boy, is it H*O*T in NC. It was about 100* today and the humidity made it feel like a 1,000*. I love NC but, the heat, not so much. I was told that I would get used to it but, after 16 years I haven't yet. All I can say is thank goodness for air conditioning and good ole' fashioned SWEET TEA without you both I think I'd die a slow and miserable death!

Hello SUMMER!

My last post was a little whiny about how hot and humid the weather has been and it's still hot and humid but, we have been incredibly busy and I really can't complain about that at all. We are so grateful that people are spending money and buying for their homes. I love it when we sell so much that it forces us to rearrange the shop and how, I got off so easy, I just don't know! Toni has spent the past two days moving furniture and tweaking BUT, she's so good at it, I just couldn't come in and mess with her MOJO! She's the BEST! Here are a few pictures of what she's been doing the past two days.

I think I am having a HOT FLASH!

Whew it's been miserable HOT here in NC and it's not even summer yet! it's getting to be that time of year where you just dread being outside. I have a few things to do in the yard this weekend and I hope I don't pass out from the heat! Toni and I are doing a little shopping this week, we have sold so much furniture in the past few weeks, it actually looks a little bare in the shop. I am really excited about going, with both of our busy schedules we haven't had a shopping trip together in a while. But, like usual we will be open and Dee will be there bright eyed and bushy tailed! Let us know if you are looking for anything in particular and we can keep an eye out.

A Primitive Place magazine!

Well, friends I have been out of the loop, right after our OPEN HOUSE I flew out to NV. Unfortunately my beloved Mother passed away. I was lucky enough my husband was training about 60 miles away and he was able to join me at my Dad's for a week. We got in last night and on my door step was a box and in the box was the WONDERFUL new A Primitive Place magazine and like each one before it's beautifully done and well worth buying. It will be in the shop Wednesday May 25!

These are a few of my favorite things!

I promise to not break out into song (even though I know all the words to all the songs in the SOUND OF MUSIC!) I am a collector of collections I am one of those collectors that collect and then stop and then collect something else so I have many. Here are just a few, I love kitchen/cooking cans with great labels (coffee cans, spice tins, lard cans) if the label catches my eye than I buy it, there's no rhyme or reason to my madness. I love baskets and I have quite a lot so now my criteria is age and just appeal, I love crocks, especially the jug kind with little handles and I love boxes, I have a few stacks of boxes around my house one stack is little boxes and the others are advertisement boxes a few biscuit and a seed box, I also love the grain measurers and the round shaker sieves. Thanks for looking!

How to grubby paper or coffe stain

You can use any kinds of paper, candstock, printer paper.
I like printer paper, it's easier to use in the printer than cardstock.
1. Pre heat oven to 200 and line both racks with crinkled tinfoil
2.Take a rectangle cake pan and put a little bit of water, it doesn't have to cover the whole pan.
3. sprinkle instant coffee down, now spay the coffee with a water bottle to moisten the coffee, leaving some areas wetter then others.
4.Dip one side of the paper then the next and put into oven to dry. You can flip paper in the oven to make sure it has dryed.
5. if you will be printing on the paper you might have to iron it, set iron on the lowest setting and iron one side then the next.
6.Now you can print on the paper or stamp and not worry about coffee staining running the ink

Grubby candles

This project can be messy, when I do this i do a large amount at a time. I have read tutorials about this and have found the easiest way for me. I buy cheap candles, at the dollar store or walmart you can also grubby up other things I have done old fashioned clothes pins and made bowl fillers with and added old buttons.
1. You'll need wax, I use left over tarts or candles or i buy the cheap candles at AC Moore, I use the spicey ones like cinnabon or banana nut bread. When they are on sale you can get a large candle for a few bucks.
2. Create a double boiler with a small pot with water boiling and put glass canle in boiling water and once it melts, I also sometimes use and old coffee can.
3.Create a work area with parchement or wax paper close to stove. You'll need an area to put the candles to set up on paper or parchment.
4. Remove wax and dip candle into the melted wax a few times to get it soft.
5.Sprinkle cinnamon,(I do this on a paper plate so I can reuse the cinnamon) and dip it into the wax holding the wick or use a paint brush. Repeat until lumppy and bumpy.
6.Sprinkle with cinnamon and let dry.

Cinnamon bowl fillers

I love cinnamon bowl fillers or ornaments. They are cheap to do and people really love them. This can be a messy project and when I make this I make a lot( Like 3 cups of each.)
1.Mix equal parts cinnamon to equal parts apple sauce.
2.Roll dough out onto parch ment paper to desired thickness.
3.Cut out with cookie cutters.( I have a crow and a star that's really cute)
4. Lay out on parchment or wax paper and let dry, you can also speed up the process by baking at 200 but, this can take a while.
5.Optional you can sprinkle with cinnamon while wet.
6. If you are going to make ornaments you'll have to put a hole in them while they are wet, I use a straw and add twine once it has dried.
They are cute as bowl fillers or with potpouri or as ornaments. You can use any smell good spice like pumkin.

Coffee stain fabric

I really like my projects to look really prim or grubby so I like to use instant coffee for my projects.
1. Wet fabric.
2. Remove as much water as possible.
3. Lay flat, do this outside if possible, it's messy. and spinkle with instant coffee, do it heavier in areas you want darker, Spay water with a water bottle to moisten coffee.
4. Let dry in the sun.
5. Rinse out or leave it depending on prefrence.
6. you can also put in the dryer to try and heat set it, I usually only do this if by chance someone might wash it. But, most of my projects aren't to be washed.
